At the end of last week, Romanians in Sweden enjoyed the visit of Father Damaskinos of the Grigoriou Monastery from Mount Athos with the blessing and at the initiative of His Grace Bishop Macarie Drăgoi of Northern Europe.
On Saturday, May 18, 2019, Father Damaskinos was in the midst of the Romanians in Linköping, and on Sunday, May 19, and Monday, May 20, the famous missionary was at the Romanian Parish of St. Great Martyr George and at the Diocesan Center in Stockholm. During these meetings, which took place in an interactive format, Father Damaskinos gave numerous answers regarding the Orthodox mission in Africa, but also the condition of the Christian in contemporary society and how we can give a good testimony of faith in our day. Along with His Grace Macarie Drăgoi, Father Damaskinos emphasized the need for liturgical and missionary involvement of Christians to deal with the disruptive and uniformizing forces of the consumer society.
Father Damaskinos of the Grigoriou Monastery is a well-known missionary monk from Mount Athos who has a long and rich activity in various African countries. The Diocese of Northern Europe is currently conducting a social project in Kenya, which involves raising an orphanage for the poor children of this African country.
