His Grace Bishop Macarie Drăgoi of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Northern Europe was on Saturday, April 28, at Copsa Mică, to participate in a philanthropic event organized by the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Northern Europe called “Social Scholarships for Poor Children in Romania” in partnership with the Archdiocese of Sibiu.
For several years, dozens of children in poor families in the Copsa Mica region have monthly social scholarships worth 25 euros, which are sent in vouchers on the basis of which children can purchase the necessary needs. The local program is coordinated with the blessing of the hierarch, the Most Blessed Metropolitan Laurenţiu Streza, by rev. fr. Peter Acatrinei from the Romanian Orthodox Parish “Saints Archangels Michael and Gavriil” from Vinyard Valley, Medias.
The event, which took place at the “Archangels Mihail and Gavriil” Parish of the Vinyard Valley , took place after the Divine Liturgy, where Bishop Macarie served with the delegates of the Metropolitan Laurenţiu Streza and the Vicar Bishop Ilarion Făgăraşan and the Father Archpriest of Mediaş, Ovidiu Ioan Găvan, surrounded by a group of priests and deacons involved in this philanthropic program.
The beneficiaries of the scholarships are one hundred children from poor families, some orphans, others from many families who face material difficulties. At the end of the Eucharistic ministry, all the poor children present at the service, as well as some poor people with disabilities, received the scholarships directly from His Eminence Bishop Macarie Drăgoi, who encouraged and blessed their parents or guardians, the hierarch enjoying that the latter personally came to
His Grace Macarius and said, “We have a model in the philanthropic ministry of Saint Hierarch Nicholas, who searched for a fallen family in misery. In that very poor family, because of despair, the father made the decision that his three daughters would prostitute. St. Nicholas went to this family not to moralize or to cheek and to preach. The gentle hierarch, in secret, helped them with money, helped them with deed, helped them concretely, giving them dowry to the girls, and saved those virgins from prostitution, from bodily and soul loss! It is terrible to live in a state of abandonment, of distrust in your fellows, whom you only see as selfish indifferent to the troubles and shortcomings you face. It is terrible to be a child and to look at other children who can enjoy a rich life and the love of others. What traces can leave such feelings in the infant soul of a child … There are so many children who, without any fault, are born in families in very poor environments, little children who have the right to have their own hot meals, good clothes , toys to stimulate them, books, school. They have the right to enjoy like the other little ones! To see that others care about them. Have the chance to feel no frustration and anger because they are despised by the others, but gratitude and thanks for being, here, humanity! They have a man to ease their troubles! So let’s be men for these smaller brothers! ”
